If an athlete suspects identity theft, secure affected accounts, change compromised credentials and contact the relevant financial institution using verified contact information. Preserve messages, statements and screenshots.

Review credit reports and consider appropriate fraud alerts or freezes through the official credit bureaus. File reports with law enforcement or government identity-theft resources when appropriate.
