Recognizing When NIL Pressure Is Becoming Too Much

Warning signs that the business side of sports may be interfering with well-being.

Watch for persistent sleep problems, withdrawal, panic, irritability, falling academic performance or a loss of enjoyment in the sport. NIL obligations can add another layer of public evaluation and time pressure.

Reduce nonessential commitments and ask the athlete what support they want. A licensed mental-health professional or school resource may help when stress is persistent or disruptive.
