Compensation can matter, but it is only one part of a transfer decision. Families should compare academic programs, credit transfer, coaching stability, roster opportunity, medical support, housing and the athlete’s long-term development.

Separate confirmed terms from verbal expectations. Ask what is guaranteed, who is responsible for each commitment and what happens if leadership changes. Avoid improper recruiting communications and involve school compliance personnel where appropriate.

Create a weighted comparison instead of relying on emotion. The best choice is the one that fits the athlete’s full life—not necessarily the largest headline number.

Protect their opportunity. Prepare for their future.
